Metrology of the Abstract Dictionary

MoA Dictionary is a continuously calibrated dictionary: metrological discipline — standards, traceability, uncertainty, continuous correction — applied to words and definitions as conceptual instruments.

What This Is

We are not a brand, and we are not “just a website.”

We are a metrology system — standards, procedures, calibration records, and instruments — aimed at one primary field of measurement: how well a definition (and its mechanism) measures the domain it claims to serve.

This is not the same claim as being incomplete. “Incomplete” implies a fixed, known endpoint that has not been reached yet — a finished product waiting to exist. That is not what this is. A metrology has no such endpoint by design: the calibration cycle keeps running as long as language, usage, and institutions keep changing.

A calibration cycle checking an entry is not the same as that entry requiring rewrite. An instrument can pass diagnostics and need no edit — that is a good outcome. The cycle exists to confirm accuracy on a real schedule, not to presume every word is broken. “Never done” describes the checking, not endless rewriting for its own sake.

What we actually are, at any given moment, is in development and at a specific point in a calibration cycle — a real, stated, checkable position (seed, sketch, provisional standard, higher standing when earned). Every entry and procedure should declare that position honestly. That declaration is part of the discipline, not an admission of failure.

A brand finishes a product and ships it. A metrology calibrates an instrument and keeps checking it. The first treats “done” as the goal. The second treats “currently accurate, checked recently, standing declared, residual uncertainty visible” as the goal — ongoing, and answerable to reality whether or not that answer requires a change.

What We Measure

  • Definitions — Does the abstract claim track original intent, observable use, and predictive consequences?
  • Mechanisms — How is the concept evaluated and applied (inputs, decision points, failure modes, repeatability)?
  • Semantic drift — When label and mechanism diverge, overload, or lose boundaries — classified and documented, not merely argued.
  • Standing — Self-Assessed until independent pressure earns more; no authority cosplay.

We publish calibrated entries and the path (sketches, reports, recommendations). Polished conclusions without a trail are weaker instruments.

What We Are Not

  • Not a legislature, court, or regulator
  • Not a replacement for domain dictionaries, legal interpretation, or professional judgment
  • Not a ministry of permitted meanings
  • Not finished, and not pretending “Permanent Beta” means “untrustworthy”

We measure, document, report, and recommend. Domain authorities decide what to adopt.

Relationship to MoA and The Sovereign Games

Metrology of the Abstract (MoA) is the underlying discipline: metrology applied to abstract systems.

This dictionary is a primary implementation and proving ground of MoA — where independent calibrators can run terms, publish records, challenge mechanisms, and earn standing through survived work.

The Sovereign Games is a related sandbox where MoA-style discipline is exercised on human-system patterns (diagnostics, builders, governance). TSG is not this dictionary, and this dictionary is not a rebrand of TSG. Shared method; different measurement field.

MoA provides the discipline.
This dictionary provides a public range for calibrating words.
Reality has the final vote.

Serious contributors welcome. Re-runs, counterexamples, and careful correction beat passive agreement. If something is unclear or wrong, that is data — not a scandal.
